Studio in Algajola, Near the Sea
With a studio open all year round in the seaside village of Algajola, Hélène Bécu embodies a commitment to art and the desire to share her passion with the public and other artists, making her a notable figure in the contemporary art world. She welcomes you to her studio located near the village fortifications, renowned for its Castle and Bastion.
Abstract Art Inspired by Island Colors
Abstract art frees the imagination, never dwelling in reproduction. Hélène's inspiration comes from life's profound moments, her nature walks, the Corsican landscapes through the seasons, the contrast of lights that allows her to touch all colors, from the blue of the sea to warmer hues, as well as certain experiences like Aikido. Hélène uses simple materials to give movement and relief to her works, reflecting her desire to explore and freely express her emotions and thoughts through art.
Aluminum Paintings
The result is paintings that allow for individual interpretation. Hélène enjoys hearing visitors' perceptions of her work, which can sometimes converge, and sometimes reveal a very personal viewpoint.
Oil on Canvas
Palette Knife Painting
A particular technique used by the painter is known as palette knife painting, or oil painting worked with a knife. More challenging to work with than acrylic, this technique allows Hélène to create movement and bring energy by mixing several shades of colors. The artist employs other painting techniques, sometimes using mixed techniques. Her journey has allowed her to explore a vast array of techniques, except watercolor.
Relief Artworks
Many works play on reliefs, often employing nearby materials, such as fishing nets or sand from the Algajola beach located just below. A maritime scent to which are added eye of Saint Lucy shells, or red coral.
Paintings on Canvas or Aluminum Plate
These two main mediums you will find at the ToileFilante workshop each bring a uniqueness.
- The canvas stretcher support, both flexible and lightweight for transport, used by many painters
- The aluminum support, much more atypical, which brings brilliance to the colors with a sense of hardness
- Other supports such as wood, marble, or stone
