The Corsican digestif from Niolu

Originally from Calacuccia, a village of 300 inhabitants, Jean-Marc Negroni spent his youth on the mainland, returning for vacations. A need to reconnect with his roots in Niolu was embodied in a spirits project rooted in his native land. In 2010-2011, he developed his first, unique recipe. The first bottles saw the light of day in spring 2012. Since then, more than 10,000 liqueurs have been produced every year, in a process entirely controlled by the distiller-liquorist, from maceration to delivery, with only a labeling machine and a filler.

Made in the heart of Niolu, Negroni liqueurs sublimate the essences of Corsica's maquis - myrtle, chestnut, water mint - and the island's citrus fruits. Each maceration, extended for 60 to 120 days, releases a singular aromatic richness.

Made from 100% fruit or whole berries, Negroni liqueurs vary in color depending on the harvest. For example, the more concentrated myrtle berries of 2022 offered a more intense hue than the previous year.

In Jean-Marc's philosophy, the terroir begins at his feet. That's why his chestnut liqueur is made exclusively with chestnuts from Niolu PDO producers, picked in autumn.

It is not made from chestnut flour, but from whole roasted chestnuts, from December to January.

A real jewel, the taste of chestnuts is authentic and soft on the palate, a must-try.

Corsican myrtle liqueur - Licora di Mortule

As myrtle only grows on the coast, Jean-Marc Negroni picks myrtle berries in Propriano over a period of 3 to 4 days, as well as in Cap Corse and Aléria by professional pickers. The picking season runs from December to January.

In the end, around 250 kilos of myrtle are used for a year's production.

Myrtle liqueur is the most sought-after product, and production is currently prioritized to avoid stock-outs. An emblematic fruit of the island, myrtle liqueur is often served as a digestif in restaurants, along with limoncellu.

Mandarin liqueur is also a flagship product of Negroni liqueurs, and much appreciated for its sweetness.

The mandarins are supplied by a grower in Venzolasca in the Casinca region, untreated.

Jean-Marc Négroni chose mandarins over the famous Corsican clementine for reasons of taste. Mandarins, and in particular their skin, are less acidic than clementine skin.

Mandarins are also picked in winter, from December to January.

Mint liqueur is perhaps the least well known, but deserves just as much attention as the other liqueurs. It has very interesting digestive properties.

Mint is not the same variety of mint you're used to finding in cooking, but a water mint easily found on the banks of Corsican rivers in summer, whose scent in the summer heat exalts the typical odor of this island plant.

Mint liqueur is naturally transparent, like mint syrup when no food coloring is used.

The latest Negroni liqueur to be released between 2023 and 2024, this blackberry liqueur celebrates the berry that is so typical and abundant in Corsica. The ingredients are alcohol, water, blackberry and sugar.

The bottle is currently available in 70 cl and has an alcohol content of 29%.

Also released between 2023 and 2024, the 5 citrus liqueur is composed of alcohol, water, mandarin, pomelo, citron, lemon and bitter orange.

The bottle is currently available in 70 cl and has an alcohol content of 29%.

You'll also find eau de vie at 44% alcohol, distilled from wine, alcohol and water.

Long housed in the same building as the village post office, Distillerie Negroni will be relocating to a brand-new building on the Calacuccia dam traffic circle in the summer of 2024.

This new 300 m² structure fully reflects the spirit of the company. It houses a welcoming boutique dedicated to sales and tasting, with a counter, tables and seats for sharing a convivial moment.

In the production area, visitors can discover a German-made still, custom-designed by Müller Brennereianlagen (Oberkirch-Tiergarten), specially intended for the production of new artisanal eaux-de-vie, such as plum or pear.

Distillery near the Calacuccia dam

Jean-Marc Negroni's distillery is located at the crossroads leading to the Calacuccia dam, immediately on your right, after passing the A Casa Niulinca restaurant, where you'll naturally find these liqueurs as a digestif to accompany the end of your meal, or to enjoy at the bar.

Fior' di Notte, the original aperitif

The first in a long series, Fior' di Notte is an aperitif whose ingenious blend of blackthorn and juniper brings out the scents of the maquis. Jean-Marc hand-picks the berries from these shrubs in winter, before drying them over time.

Negroni liqueurs are available in three sizes: 10 cl, 35 cl and 70 cl.

The smaller 10 cl format is frequently found in attractive gift boxes, perfect for introducing the different flavors to friends and family who are not yet familiar with the range.

Practical and easy to carry, the 10 cl bottle is also ideal for air travellers: authorized as cabin baggage, it avoids the risk of breakage in the hold.

Well-balanced, relatively low in sugar and with an optimum alcohol content of 33%, Negroni liqueurs can now be found in most Corsican delicatessens, numerous wine shops, Michelin-starred restaurants and at Charlotte's Cabanon in Cargèse, as well as outside the island: in Bordeaux, Paris, Nice, Lyon and even Switzerland.
