After having lived on the mainland in his youth, where he would return only for holidays, Jean-Marc Negroni felt the need to reconnect with his Niolu region through a project closely tied to his land.

Originally from Calacuccia, it was in this small village of 300 inhabitants that the distiller and liqueur maker crafted his very first spirit in 2010-2011, using a unique recipe, with the first bottles released in the spring of 2012. Each year, more than 10,000 bottles pass through the hands of Jean-Marc Negroni, who manages all stages of production from start to finish, aided only by a labeling machine and a filling device.

6 Liqueurs to Discover

Today, there are 4 flagship liqueur flavors (Mint, Mandarin, Chestnut, and Myrtle), joined by two new flavors (Blackberry and 5 Citrus Fruits). The maceration process in the vat lasts between 60 and 120 days.

  • Myrtle Liqueur
  • Mandarin Liqueur
  • Chestnut Liqueur
  • Insular Mint Liqueur
  • Blackberry Liqueur (New!)
  • 5 Citrus Fruits Liqueur (New!)

New Distillery Facility in Summer 2024

Negroni Distillery Niolu Liqueur Calacuccia Corsica

Previously housed in the same building as the village post office, the Negroni Distillery will relocate in the summer of 2024 to its brand-new facility at the Calacuccia dam roundabout.

The 300-square-meter building reflects the essence of the company. It features a shop dedicated to sales and tasting, with a counter, tables, and chairs for a truly convivial experience.

In the production area, you can see the new German-made still, custom-ordered for the production of new fruit brandies, such as plum brandy.

Distillery Located Near the Calacuccia Dam

Jean-Marc Negroni's distillery is located at the intersection leading to the Calacuccia dam, immediately on your right after passing the A Casa Niulinca restaurant where you will naturally find these liqueurs.

Liqueurs Made from Insular Herbs

The fragrance of the maquis, which reminds Jean-Marc Negroni of his childhood, is the primary source of inspiration for his recipes. All Negroni liqueurs exalt the aromas of the maquis and Corsica, using primarily wild plants (myrtle, chestnuts, aquatic mint), and citrus fruits sourced from a local producer.

He creates several liqueurs with original flavors, such as chestnut liqueur, mandarin liqueur, or Corsican mint liqueur. The aromas, although very similar, can have subtle differences like wine, with slight variations depending on the vintage, particularly in terms of color. For instance, the myrtle berries harvested in 2022 were smaller but also more flavorful, offering a more pronounced color than the previous year.

  • Chestnut Liqueur from Niolu - Licora di Castagna

    Negroni Chestnut Liqueur

In his quest to promote his region, Jean-Marc's philosophy is that the terroir begins at his feet. This is why the chestnut liqueur is made exclusively with AOP chestnuts from Niolu, harvested in the autumn.

It is not produced from chestnut flour, but with whole roasted chestnuts, from December to January.

A true gem, the taste of chestnut is authentic and smooth on the palate, an absolute must-try.

  • Corsican Myrtle Liqueur (Aléria, Propriano, Cap Corse) - Licora di Mortule

    Negroni Myrtle Liqueur

Myrtle only grows along the coast, and the myrtle berries are harvested by Jean-Marc Negroni in Propriano over a period of 3 to 4 days, as well as in Cap Corse and Aléria by professional pickers. The harvesting period extends from December to January.

In total, about 250 kilograms of myrtle will be used for the year's production.

Myrtle liqueur is the most in-demand, and its production is currently prioritized to avoid stock shortages. A symbolic fruit of the island, myrtle liqueur is often served as a digestif in restaurants, much like limoncello.

  • Corsican Mandarin Liqueur (Venzolasca) - Licora di Mandarina

    Negroni Mandarin Liqueur

The Mandarin Liqueur is also a flagship product of Negroni liqueurs, highly appreciated for its smoothness.

The mandarins are supplied by a producer from Venzolasca in Casinca, without any treatment.

Jean-Marc Negroni chose mandarin over the famous Corsican clementine for its flavor. The mandarin, especially its peel, is less acidic than that of the clementine.

The mandarins are also harvested in winter, from December to January.

  • Corsican Aquatic Mint Liqueur - Licora di Mintrastella

    Negroni Mint Liqueur

The Mint Liqueur may be the least known, but it deserves as much attention as the other liqueurs. It has very interesting digestive properties.

This Mint is not the same variety commonly found in cooking; it is aquatic mint, easily found along Corsican rivers in summer, where its scent under the summer heat exudes the typical aroma of this island plant.

The Mint Liqueur is naturally transparent, like mint syrup, when no food coloring is used.

  • Corsican Blackberry Liqueur - Licora di Mora

    Negroni Mint Liqueur

The latest Negroni liqueur, released between 2023 and 2024, the Blackberry Liqueur celebrates this typical and abundant berry in Corsica. The ingredients are alcohol, water, blackberry, and sugar.

The bottle currently exists in a 70 cl size, and its alcohol content is 29%.

  • 5 Citrus Fruits Liqueur - Licora 5 agrumi

    Negroni Mint Liqueur

The 5 Citrus Fruits Liqueur was also released between 2023 and 2024. It is composed of alcohol, water, mandarin, pomelo, citron, lemon, and bitter orange.

The bottle currently exists in a 70 cl size, and its alcohol content is 29%.

Fior' di Notte, the Original Aperitif

Fior di Notte Di Corsica Aperitif - Calacuccia, Corsica Negroni

The first creation in a long series, Fior' di Notte is an aperitif whose ingenious blend of sloe and juniper exalts the scents of the maquis. These are shrubs from which Jean-Marc handpicks the berries in winter, before they are dried over time.

Bottles of 10, 35, and 70 cl

Negroni liqueurs are available in three sizes: 10 cl, 35 cl, and 70 cl bottles.

The 10 cl bottles are often found in small gift sets, allowing friends or family who are unfamiliar with the flavors to discover them.

Moreover, the 10 cl size is ideal for travelers flying, as they are allowed on board as carry-on luggage, minimizing the risk of breaking in the hold.

In Grocery Stores Across Corsica and the Mainland

With a balanced sweetness and an optimal alcohol content of 33%, Negroni liqueurs are now available in grocery stores across Corsica, at wine merchants, in Michelin-starred restaurants, at Cabanon de Charlotte in Cargèse, and also outside the island in Bordeaux, Paris, Nice, Lyon, and even in Switzerland.

After working as a commercial professional for 20 years in the food industry, Jean-Marc Negroni now relishes his successful career transition, despite the constant investment it requires—effort that doesn’t count when passion is involved.
