A Multifaceted Painter

Hélène Bécu stands out for the diversity of her artistic expressions. From an early age, she won a national drawing competition, an early sign of her exceptional path in the art world.

Hélène's career has been marked by prestigious exhibitions, notably at the GMAC and the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, as well as significant awards such as medals from the Académie d'Arts Sciences Lettres and the Institut Européens des Arts Contemporains. She was one of the founders of the Vagabond'Art association.

With a year-round studio in the seaside village of Algajola, Hélène Bécu embodies a commitment to art and a willingness to share her passion with the public and other artists, making her a remarkable figure in the contemporary art world. She awaits you in her studio located near the fortifications of the village famous for its Castle and Bastion.

Abstract art inspired by island colors

Abstract art gives free rein to the imagination, without ever reproducing. Hélène's inspiration comes from the highlights of her life, her walks in nature, the Corsican landscapes through the seasons, the contrast of light that allows her to touch on all colors, from the blue of the sea to warmer colors, as well as certain experiences such as Aïkido. Hélène uses simple materials to give movement and relief to her works, reflecting her desire to freely explore and express her emotions and reflections through art.

Format and shapes

Hélène works with rectangular or square shapes, especially for aluminum. She explores other shapes on canvas, with triangles, but also triangular diptychs or triptychs.

The dimensions of her works range from 20x20 cm for the smallest to over a metre square for the largest.

Knife painting: matter, movement and relief

A demanding oil painting technique, knife painting produces thick pastes, luminous ridges and textures in relief. Hélène works with broad gestures, superimpositions and fades to create movements that capture the light.

Works of art in relief

Many of the works here play on relief, often using nearby materials such as fishing nets or sand from the Algajola beach just below. A maritime fragrance, with the addition of eye shells from St. Lucia, or red coral.
