History & Heritage

Discover the small seaside resort of Tiuccia in the commune of Casaglione, just half an hour from Ajaccio. With its small cove and its impressive Liamone beach, as well as its Capigliolu fort, you will appreciate the beauty of the region's sunsets.

Beaches of Casaglione

Liamone Beach

Liamone Beach

The vast sandy beach of Liamone stretches for 2.7 km along a strip approximately 40 meters wide. It is named after the eponymous river that flows into the sea at its center (at the Liamone bridge), separating the commune of Casaglione to the south of the river's mouth from that of Coggia to the north.

The D81 runs along its entire length with several sandy paths providing access to the southern part. A parking lot with about sixty spaces is located at the beginning of the beach, just outside Casaglione, offering convenient parking.

Unsupervised Beach

Like the Sagone beach located 2 km further north, the Liamone beach is known to be dangerous due to strong currents depending on the weather conditions. During heavy swells, waves can reach several meters in height, creating powerful breakers. It is important to note that the Liamone beach is not supervised.

Tiuccia Beach

Tiuccia Beach

This small cove, relatively less frequented and more family-friendly, features coarse sand with some rocks emerging from the water.

A more urban beach, it is located in the heart of the small seaside resort of Tiuccia.

Due to the absence of parking spaces except those belonging to the residences built along the beach, you will need to park a bit higher and access it on foot.

Fortin de Capigliolu

Fortin Capigliolu

Now in ruins, the Capigliolu fort - named after this hill that juts out towards the sea - was built in the 16th century between 1582 and 1583.

The Capigliolu point forms a natural separation between the Gulf of Liscia to the south and the Liamone beach.

This fortification is located 200 meters as the crow flies from the Genoese tower of Capigliolu, which was constructed during the same period.

The Sunsets of Tiuccia

Sunset at Tiuccia

The western facade of the island is teeming with sunsets that seem ever more beautiful, and Tiuccia is no exception.

Close to Sagone and Cargèse, and further with the Calanques of Piana, one recognizes the warm tones of the red granite that the last rays of the sun set ablaze at dusk, in both summer and winter.

Churches and Chapels

San Fredianu Church

Saint Fridian Church

The San Fredianu Church, named after the Patron Saint of Casaglione, is located in the center of the village. Its patronal feast is celebrated on November 26, featuring a procession with confraternities.

It appears to be the only church in Corsica dedicated to Saint Fridian, an Irish monastic hermit of the 6th century who became the Bishop of the city of Lucca, a small town in Tuscany near Pisa. The Basilica of Saint Fridian in Lucca is one of the oldest churches in Italy.

The fame of San Fredianu comes from the story according to which the Irish monk managed to divert the course of the Serchio river, preventing a flood in the small Italian town of Lucca.

Saint John the Baptist Chapel

The Saint John the Baptist Chapel is located about a hundred meters from the sea in the heart of the seaside resort of Tiuccia. A small statue representing Our Lady of Guadalupe is present on the front façade of the chapel.
